Vincent Van Gogh Last Resting Place
Colourful Impressions of Europe by Christine Clark
Pastel
Framed Size 59cm x 46cm
$980.00
The Hospital Gardens of Arles 1888 and again in 1889 – Van Gogh painted the central garden of the hospital, titled ‘The Courtyard’ in the Hospital in Arles. Because Rae and I have loved the French Impressionist style, we travelled over in France following some of the famous areas that were painted by them and this is one where Van Gogh had stayed and painted this same garden. The light on the day we visited was so extremely beautiful in that central garden I just had to paint it.

ITALY These beautiful stairs have been attracting crowds ever since they were built over 300 years ago. This staircase was built to connect the Piazza di Spagna with the French Church of Trinita dei Monti on the hill above. The staircase is iconic and a meeting place for many. Its one of the monumental staircases on the planet. There are 135 stairs and were designed and completed in 1725 after 2 years hard work. They are called Spanish Steps because the Spanish Embassy has been located there since the 17th Century the steps were paid for by the French and built by the Italians.
Venice Grand Canal
Colourful Impressions of Europe by Christine Clark
Pastel
Framed 860mm x 530mm
$2,500.00
ITALY This is one of our favourite places to visit, so different, such history, stunning architecture and the canals, boats, ferries and Gondolas being the only way to travel. We arrived by train in Venice we then walked a short distance to the Grand Canal. Rae-lee my dear friend had never visited before her eyes nearly popped out of her head, her face lit up like a Christmas tree and she was just gobsmacked. (even though she can speak Italian, because her husband was Italian but has passed years ago). Some of my favourite memories are of watching Rae-lee being amazed at what she was seeing. We stayed for around 3/4 days visiting St Marc’s Square, some Art Galleries and enjoying the amazing food and Gelato’s. Sweet memories.
Venice Mask

Pastel
Framed 520mm x 440mm
$980.00
ITALY This single Venice Mask was in a Mask shop in Venice and sat in the window on its own, which I felt was inspiring because of its intricately fine workmanship and the small sparkly stones. I felt painting it may help me to understand how much work goes into a single mask of such beauty.

Pastel
Framed Size 610mm x 474mm

BRITAIN As we walked towards this quirky couple waiting for their bus, they made me giggle because he obviously needed glasses as he studied his paper, no more than 2 inches from his face and his wife searching in her bag, both of them totally oblivious to me taking a photo. Sooo cute I just had to paint them. Ludlow in Shropshire Being on the border between upland Wales and lowland England. Often referred to as the “food capital of Shropshire,” Ludlow is famous for its gastronomic delights, including its Michelin-starred restaurants and the annual Ludlow Food Festival.
Venice - Gondola Ride

530mm x 460mm
$980.00
SOLD
ITALY We took a Gondola ride (quintessential to Venice) which I was a bit hesitant about doing so, but Rae convinced me. This was a fabulous adventure up and down some of the narrow Canals you can’t see easily any other way. The Architecture is beautiful and so full of history to see Venice from the water, really the only way to immerse yourself. This is both an Artists dream and a nightmare in perspective. So unusual to see water lapping at the base of the buildings. Later we travelled by ferry over to Murano one of the islands that make the beautiful Venetian Glass and watched the glass blowing. Venice is a stunning place full of beauty and historic architecture and a remarkable piece of history. Loved every minute.

The Bridge still opens for ships to pass, to this day, now around 800 times a year.

Colourful Impressions of Europe by Christine Clark
Pastel
Framed 464mmm x 620mm
$980.00
FRANCE Rae & I were walking in Paris heading for a crossing, when I grabbed her arm and said wait. I had spotted an extremely tall black man he must have been about 6’7 possibly Nigerian and holding his hand was a dear little girl with her hair nicely braided and in the cutest little pink ruffled outfit. They had their backs to us waiting to cross, when the little girl turned side on and looked up at her extremely tall Dad and smiled. Precious Moments was born.
Vernazza - Cinque Terre
Colourful Impressions of Europe by Christine Clark
Pastel
Framed 464mm x 620mm
$980.00
ITALY Rae (my travel buddy) and I visited this beautiful little town Vernazza – it is a small fishing village staying a few days. It’s probably the most characteristic of the Cinque Terra and is classified the most beautiful one. Vernazza is surrounded by very steeply terraced olive groves which are said to produce the finest olive oil in the country. Long cut off from the modern world, this remote stretch of the Spectacular Italian Riviera only easily accessible with the coming of the train. It is a tough community long living off the sea and in the last century living off travellers who love the sea. Yellow webs of fishing nets bedecked with umbrellas, accompanying this scene is the mesmerizing noise of children at play, happy diners and the rhythm of the sea.

Profile - Colourful Impressions of Europe by Christine Clark
This exhibition was inspired by the light-filled photographs I captured while travelling through France, Italy, England, and Scotland. I have always loved Europe its luminous light, rich history, timeless architecture, and the warmth of its people with their wonderfully relaxed way of life never fail to take my breath away.
Over the years, I have taken groups of students to paint in the South of France, and each visit renews my passion. I couldn’t resist translating the towns, villages, and people I encountered into pastel.
While travelling, I often wished I could bring home more than photographs to remember these special places. My hope is that these works allow others to revisit the colourful streets, landscapes, and characters of Europe, and perhaps fall in love with them, just as I did.
