Artist Statement: Sara Paxton – Light Energy

Light is energy. It is movement, warmth, and life. In this new body of work, I explore the way light transforms landscapes, shifting through the day, dancing across surfaces, and igniting colour in unexpected ways.
'Light Energy' is a celebration of vibrancy—an invitation to experience familiar scenes through an intensified lens of colour and movement. From rolling hills bathed in golden hues to the rhythmic patterns of water reflecting the sky, these paintings capture the fleeting moments when light breathes energy into the world around us.
Inspired by my travels and deep connection to the Australian landscape, this collection embraces the bold contrasts and expressive textures that have long defined my work. I push colour beyond the expected—deep purples shadow distant ridges, fiery oranges pulse through tree canopies, and tranquil mauves soften expansive skies. My brushstrokes are layered with intent, allowing forms to emerge and dissolve, mirroring nature’s constant state of flux.
Through this exhibition, I invite viewers to pause, absorb, and feel the light—the way it shifts, the emotions it stirs, and the quiet energy it holds within every horizon.
